Tyneside Community Action for Refugees (TCAR)
Tyneside Community Action for Refugees (TCAR) is a network of groups and individuals who have united to defend asylum rights. We think that the Labour Government's laws are racist and unfair. They divide asylum seekers from British people, which is a form of apartheid. For example, asylum seekers are not allowed to work and get different benefits and housing from British people. Asylum seekers are treated like criminals: they can be put in detention centres and deported using force. TCAR is united around the following principles:
What We Are For:
- For the right to asylum and for Britain to uphold it's commitments under the United Nations 1951 Geneva Convention.
- For the right to work for asylum seekers. No to forced labour.
- For a just and fair legal process for asylum seekers
- For decent housing, income and welfare rights for all; against the separation of welfare & housing of asylum seekers - no to asylum apartheid.
- For the right of asylum seekers and their communities to self defence, for example, for the right to physically resist being forced onto a plane, or to resist snatch squads.
TCAR is in solidarity with all asylum seekers, refugees and immigrants
What We Are Against:
- Against the persecution of people on the grounds of race, nationality, religion or political view point.
- Against the scapegoating and criminalisation of asylum seekers
- Against all immigration controls in Britain
- Against forced deportation
- Against detention of asylum seekers
- Against forced dispersal
- Against attacks on asylum rights
All TCAR members and supporters at TCAR events can express their views freely, whether in spoken, written or other forms - no to censorship.
Tyneside Community Action for Refugees is run by refugees and British people. We believe it is important to support each other because TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER. TCAR aims to educate itself and the public about the involvement of Britain in the countries asylum seekers are fleeing from.
