The Victory to the Intifada (VTI) campaign was set up in 2000 to support the Palestinian Intifada -uprising- against the racist, Zionist state of Israel. For the RCG and Fight Racism! Fight Imperialism! our support for the Palestinians, as well as any other oppressed nation that is fighting imperialism and capitalism, comes out of the communist principle that “no nation can be free if it oppresses another nation”. Britain has long profited from the repression of the Palestinians, just as it does from the dirty business that companies like Shell and BP do in Iraq, Africa, Asia and elsewhere. As communists, our task is to unite the working class in Britain with the oppressed people of Palestine - because the enemy is the same, the system of imperialism and its representatives the British Labour government.
With the beginning of the Palestinian Intifada in 2000, protests began in Manchester, calling for a boycott of Marks & Spencer, a dominant British supporter of the Israeli state. The campaign soon became national, with pickets appearing in different parts of the country, including Durham and Middlesbrough from 2003 and Newcastle from 2005.
