Round-Up Aug-Sept 2005

On their return from the brigade to Cuba, brigadistas have been active in the North East building support for Cuban socialism, with regular street events and meetings in Newcastle, culminating in a ‘Bacardi Bar Bust’ on 30th September, at which activists exposed the company’s involvement with the right-wing terrorist groups based in Miami, who have attacked Cuba repeatedly since the revolution triumphed in 1959. A further Bar Bust is planned for Durham in early October.

VTI supporters have continued to build the campaign in support of the Palestinian people, with regular, lively pickets of Newcastle Marks and Spencer. In this they have recently been joined by local members of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

In September student supporters attended Freshers’ Fayres at Newcastle and Northumbria universities, and in October will attend that of Durham University. FRFI societies are being set at all of these universities, and expect to have a busy autumn helping to build the Student Anti-Imperialist Network.
